Themes in my art are the idea of place (in dreams or in reality) and the exploration of color in those landscapes. The interplay of color relationships is an interesting dynamic that I explore frequently.
I have shown in several juried shows in Maryland at the Strathmore Mansion (Night and La Vie en Bleu). My work was selected to be in two Marvel series: Iron Fist and Luke Cage. In 2019 I curated a group show, Topography at DC Art Center (Willow Street Gallery) with two other artists. My work is currently on display at District Arts Contemporary Gallery in Frederick Maryland. I am from Maryland, and I worked as an Art Teacher for 18 years. I am now a full time artist.
Color and place. These are the two themes that have the most presence in my work. Color interaction is something I have always connected with, and have always experimented with. Recently I have been focused on the healing properties of color combinations and the presence of these in dream states. Pink is a healing and compassionate color, while purple enhances higher consciousness. When painting I intuitively connect with healing energy, and place that intention in the work through color interactions. In the painting, "Pink Snow" the pink in the snow connects to the hope of a compassionate future. "Place," is about communicating the essence of a place, not a photo-representation of a place, but through the use of linear qualities and color.
Taking walks in the woods near my house has changed my life. In a slower paced life that many of us have experienced through quarantine, I have come to see the healing capacities of nature. Nature cleanses energy. Healing energy is communicated through my work. "Moon" gives a sense of hope. "Vortex" allows the viewer to see deeper, past what we see on the surface of the world. Perhaps it is a dream of the future. In “Dimensions” the viewer is invited to see beyond the veil- to a world that is just beyond what we can see on the surface. This healing energy is present for humanity in many contexts, we just need to tap into it.
Recently life has brought many of us to a familiar place, home. Many of my newest works are about exploring the nature-scape in my own backyard. There is beauty everywhere if you're willing to slow down and take a breath. Cameron (my 3 year old) and I take walks every day, and we give thanks to the fact that we can enjoy the day and be outside.
My work is currently on display at many pop-ups and events in the DMV.
